Pawtuckaway – Dec 27, 2016

2017-pawtuck

We hit this on that really warm, weird, anomaly of a day… Sorry, not a lot of pics!

Was going to head to the whites, but with rain and sleet expected, and a little later start than normal, it was nice to have pawtuckaway as a backup. Haha, classic move to be 15 into a plan and change it = U turn and off to Pawtuckaway! Similar to Major, there are many options for exploring. There is a trail map here – but its never done me any good!!! It’s more confusing than helpful!!  More fun to just wander anyways! That said, we did the fire tower trail – We parked at the State Park lot in Nottingham. Note – they used to keep the gate open around the back of state park house, but no go this winter. We walked the road down to the trailhead. I may have tried ice sledding it 🙂 yes, I hiked with a wet bum. It’s a great little hike, appropriate for all ages. Not too steep, more of an up and down walk, with the exception of part towards the end that has a bit of an incline, but there are branches around to grab on to… When you get to the top, you get some nice views of Bow Lake, and the Belknap Mountains. From the fire tower, you can keep on going… That’s the great thing about Pawtuckaway, miles and miles to explore. A good place to go snowshoe or just wander, or even bike. You can get to the trails either through the state park in Nottingham, or the backside in Raymond.
